The raga Pahadi has come a long way from the mountains and claimed its rightful place of pride in Indian classical music. It has a clear and independent format of its own, and cannot be said to be merely a dhun. So, it is now routinely termed “raga Pahadi”.
It can be further recognized and honored by being renamed “raga Parvati”. Its new name Parvati retains its original association with the mountains, and gets associated with the Goddess Parvati, Shiva’s consort and Himalaya’s daughter.
